This video essay is a nostalgia piece for the pulp horror writing of Shaun Hutson, which obsessed Safdar Ahmed as a 15 year old. Safdar read almost every book Hutson had published at the time, and Assassin was so gruesomely bad (in a good way) that it inspired his first comic – an adaptation of the novel. This is a type of love letter to gore horror, and those wonderfully gruesome painted covers you used to get in the 80s and 90s.
